5.1 SUMMARY
Summary of the planned Partnership. This description may be used by the European Commission and/or the National Agency when providing information on selected projects, so please be clear and precise and do not exceed 200 words.
Wet zones can cover diverse areas: mud flats, coastal marshes and lagunas, ponds, salt water and fresh water meadows, alluvial forests, peat bogs…
Their common point is the presence of fresh, brackish or salted water all the year round or part of the year.
The project « wet zones : water is a source of life » means to show their value and diversity in Europe by carrying out a pluridisciplinary study on their three main functions:
-biological function: those areas shelter and feed many animal and vegetal species, and are elected for reproduction.
–economical function: they ensure water ressource and production of vegetals and animals.
–Social and cultural function; they offer leisure areas as well as a perfect environment for observation and practical teaching.
The students of each partner school will achieve a study of their own territory, and will go deeper into special aspects. They will show the significance of these areas in the aspects they have chosen, and coordinate their study with other partner students .
In order to do so, they will exchange through a blog and small groups will travel to different European countries, so that the theorical study is completed by practical experiments. When they return, they can report to other students in their school.
This will enable them to :
–play a positive part in their environmental training
–exchange with other European students in a foreign language
–define common principles about management and development of wet zones
–become aware of the advantages of a common European, even global, policy for wet zones
