What makes this text a poem ?
Trace écrite

This text is composed of three___STANZAS_ (= short paragraphs) with short lines, called VERSES. However there is no RHYME.
We can notice the REPETITION  of the pronoun “I” at the beginning of each line. This is an anaphora.
The repetition of the title sounds like a CHORUS. In this poem, the repetitions convey/give some RYTHM AND MUSICALITY to the text.

Trace écrite à recopier

In her song “Roar,” Katy Perry shows how much she has changed.

Katy USED TO be weak and fearful: she says “Scared to rock the boat” /
She USED TO be shy, and well-mannered/ polite, she says “I sat quietly, agreed politely”

In the past, she was clumsy and fearful. She was not confident AT ALL! She says, “I fell for everything”.
But in the jungle, she has become a new person: NOW she is MORE courageous, she is STRONGER = less weak and cowardly. She has become AS brave AS a lion! She can roar LIKE a 🦁, she IS NOT afraid ANYMORE.

UNLIKE before, when she was cowardly and let others control her, she is now more confident and self-reliant. She can now stand up for herself, she is NO LONGER gullible!
She was quiet and weak WHEREAS now, she is brave and adventurous.
