- What is a debate?
- 2 people (or more) arguing together on the same topic and each defending their own ideas
- when people speak about different ideas and express different opinions
- a discussion between several people who argue about a subject on which they have opposed opinions. /
- When do we debate?
- We debate each time we don’t share the same ideas or opinions
- we can debate for a political event like a presidential election, but also when we disagree with someone/
- … to defend our ideas on a topic (like the environment, or any other important matters/ issues –
- … when we have slightly or completely different ideas/
- …each time something bothers you
- Where can we hear or see a debate?
- we can debate in the classroom, in court, at school……
- we can see a debate on TV / hear it on the radio (political debates)
- at school, at home, at work
- national/ international meetings/ assemblies
- on social media
- in public places (streets, forums, parks, schools, town halls, showrooms)
- political rallies
- What do we do when we debate?
- explain/ develop our arguments
- exchange different arguments
- arguing and defending our own opinions against others
- convince and give counterarguments
- listen to other ideas
- disagree
- concede = change our minds = agree
- express myself = give my arguments and examples (to illustrate/ back/ reinforce/ support my arguments)
